We are part of a faith based organization so all of our income is from donations sent to Wycliffe Bible Translators for the preference of our ministry.
Here are some numbers for 2024.
Field Budget: $5,571
We were blessed to be promised this amount just last month, May 2024. Therefore we were able to return to Cameroon. However, the number above is a voluntary reduced budget to enable us to get back sooner than otherwise would have been possible.
Our full budget is actually $6,275. We can live on the reduced budget but it doesn't leave any wiggle room for extra costs.
In recent months we have been incredibly blessed with a higher portion of our budget. There have been times when we have only received 50% for a while.
For those of you who would like a more detailed explanation into what happens to the actual dollar amounts that we are receiving and need to receive, then the following is for you!
Note: We originally wrote this page several years ago for the explanation of it. So, what follows here has not changed; we simply update numbers mentioned above.
First, a quick clarification. Now that we have returned to Cameroon, the financial information here is based on our Field Budget (FB). This is the monthly amount that has been calculated on a worksheet from Wycliffe, and it represents our best estimate of how much money we need each month to live here in Cameroon.
This monthly figure includes EVERYTHING that we need financially each month, which makes it seem a bit high, compared to normal salaries. For example, it includes a standard allowance for our housing costs, a personal factor for each person in our family (which is intended to cover food, clothing, etc for each individual), costs for schooling, the various insurance premiums that we pay each month, a portion set aside each month to cover air fare for our next furlough, as well as various other expenses. It does not include one-time set up costs, such as purchasing new appliances for our home or purchasing a new vehicle.
You should also note that, for tax purposes we qualify as being self-employed. So, this figure also includes the money that employers would normally cover for us, such as our Social Security tax and our health insurance. Also, ten percent of all the funds that are sent in for us go to support the work of Wycliffe in general, so this figure is a bit higher than it otherwise would be to account for the fact that we only keep 90% of it for our personal use.
And just to be clear, this 10% that Wycliffe takes out of our funds is not something that we are bothered by or that we see as a problem; the 10% that is taken from all members' funds allows Wycliffe USA to continue the work of recruiting and supporting that they do for Wycliffe members all around the world, so we rather consider this 10% to be a part of the tithe that we give back to the work of Bible Translation.
This Field Budget number is the monthly amount that we need to have given each month in order to be able to live in Cameroon without going into debt (gifts that are given yearly are factored into this monthly figure).
Praying for increased support for you and your family!
ReplyDeleteMay God bless you with enough support to return to Cameroon soon. You are really missed!
